The Culvert

As we like to be spekky, we have decided that the entrance to our house should be via the back of the dam. You enter our property heading up to the dam, turn left going over the back of the dam then up the hill to the house.

The overflow on the back of the dam was a single pipe made of plastic. The small amount of traffic that had been across this area had squashed the pipe into an oval shape.
As we are planning as making this our main entrance we need to make it more robust. It also needs to be robust to allow trucks to cross it whilst they are building the house.

Below is a picture of the pipe before the 'renovations'.

This pipe was dug out using the front end loader which has a back hoe on one end. I am sure the driver had a wonderful time digging....................just don't let him know I said so!

Once the pipe was out the excavation began, digging it all out and leveling the site. A small wall was built at the dam end of the cut (top of this photo) to hold back the water. The dam in the middle of winter was another 40cm higher than this!

The Start

The start is the best place to start I suppose, so here we are at the start.

We are building a house on 100 acres, in the Valley of the Men, or one Man. Who the Man is I'll never know but I want to thank him for providing us such a beautiful place to build.
